How to Stay Healthy While Traveling During the Cold Season

As a luxury transportation service, we understand that traveling takes you out of your routine, and can take a toll on your overall health; especially when temperatures start to drop. Whether you are heading home for your favorite holiday or traveling for business, it is important to ensure that you are taking the necessary steps to stay healthy. To help you achieve this, we have provided you with a few ways that you can protect yourself from catching an illness during this cold season.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water while traveling. It sounds simple, but when you are out of your routine it is easy to forget to drink water. In addition to helping you remain healthy, drinking water will keep your energy up and fight off hunger.

Prepare for the cold

Temperatures are beginning to drop quickly; especially here in Massachusetts. When you travel in the winter, pack earmuffs or a hat and gloves. These items take up very little room in your carry-on or suitcase but make all the difference when you need them. You may also want to consider wearing multiple layers so that you are comfortable as temperatures change.

Fight off germs

Before leaving for your destination, pack a travel kit with a few essential items. Zinc lozenges and vitamin C supplements are both immunity boosting items that will help you stay healthy. Vitamin C supplements are a great alternative to juice because they do not contain as much sugar. We also suggest packing travel-size hand sanitizer and tissues. If you are traveling by plane, you can turn off the overhead fans above your seat to avoid unnecessary contact with germs.

Exercise when you travel

Make sure you are still getting exercise when you travel, even if you just go out for a walk each day. If you decide to workout at a hotel gym or local fitness center, bring your hand sanitizer and tissues to wipe down the equipment before and after you use it.

The importance of a well-planned trip

By planning your travel schedule in advance, you can prevent a lot of stress that may bring your immunity down. Make sure you get enough sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before you embark on your trip. We also suggest having a clear idea of where you will be staying, and what is nearby. During cold season, you may also want to consider searching for the closest urgent care center and drug store, just in case you catch a cold during your trip.
